Spring Topic

The teachers have planned an exciting topic for the Spring Term. The children will be learning about all things linked to oceans and seas across the globe in the topic ‘Under the Sea’. On the first day back the children will be immersed in all things Topic related by developing their own original ideas to develop and create Topic book front covers for the term. The Year 4 team will to go on a journey to various seas and oceans. Work here will include looking at different coastlines and places on Earth using longitude and latitude lines. As part of the curriculum children will be finding out about different types of animal habitats, how animals have adapted and why it is important to look after this precious water habitat. They will see how communities use these areas, but also how dangerous water can be.

The Year Fours will use knowledge and creativity when they plan and write sea themed stories and water themed pieces of poetry. They will then write persuasively and show their learning when they persuade the reader to look after the Great Barrier Reef. They will present learning about water activities, people and animals.
During the Spring Term, pupils will continue to develop their creativity. They will challenge themselves in music by continuing to learn and perform the trumpet and will even appraise the work of famous artists and musicians. The year group will again have the opportunity to improve on the skills they have been introduced to in previous academic years, as well as being introduced to new skills in Design and Technology, Art, Computing and Music.
